Review Week

The brief- a one week project based on one object and fill a sketch book with ideas, drawings and sketches

My object- a bungee cord
Photographs

first page of my sketch book
observational drawings in different media to grasp feel for the object

Mind map to explore lots of varies ideas related to the object

colour pages based on the colours from the pattern on the cord

Photographs

repeated overlapping studies on collaged paper

a mind map on how I could relate my object to my specialism- FASHION

On negatively photocopied paper I created the hook shape from plaited elastic

Different ways of creating the hook shape

I used the bungee cord literally as garments on cut out figures

Using my stencil i created a repeat pattern on the photocopier

I looked more closely at the pattern on the cord

Using knitting and weaving I tried to recreate the texture and pattern on the cord

By enlarging sections on the cord I used them as a garment idea

By using a multi colour mono print I layered to different parts of the bungee cord.

on paper

on fabric

I then photocopied my mono print and reduced the scale
I also researched the creation and history of the bungee cord

On the photocopier I created some more repeat patterns

By using the patterns I folded and pleated the paper to form garment based on 1930's style dresses as this was when the bungee cord was invented so I thought this was an appropriate time period to base the dresses on

I looked at artsist and designers who use elastic and repeat patterns

I also looked at upcyling and a Chinese designer who uses old dust sheets and tarpaulin to produce her garments

on white paper, first by inking in the negative space then drawing in numerous methods the observational drawing on top.

on a made ground, with the same composition as above but in a few different drawing styles.

on white paper, same object, repeated and rotated and changed the scale

on a made ground, same composition as landscape pieces

on made paper, same image but rotated and the scale changed

on made paper, one object, drawn in ink and stitch
